PURPOSE:To form the steel product for fillet arc welding having excellent pore resistance by providing a specific plating layer essentially consisting of Ni, etc., in the part corresponding to the joint surface of the steel product to be joined to the mating steel product at the time of fillet arc welding. CONSTITUTION:Paste 3 contg. a plating soln. in a paste supplying device 4 is press-fed into a paste trap 7 by a pressurizing means 5 and is held in a water permeable pad 8 via a counter electrode 2 to leach a paste plating soln. 3 onto the steel product 1. The paste plating liquid 3 consists essentially of one or >=2 kinds of Ni, Cu and Cr at this time. The steel product 1 as cathode and the counter electrode 2 as anode are then energized via wirings 10 by a power source means 9 to apply >=0.1mu plating layer on the surface of the steel product 1. A primer 11 having >=7mu thickness is provided on this plating layer and this steel product is joined to the other steel product 1 by fillet arc welding. Generation of blowholes and pits in a weld zone 12 is prevented in this way.
