An electrically operated hand hair dryer (10) has a housing (11, 12) with an inlet (13) at one end and an outlet (15) at the other end. Disposed in the housing is an electric motor (18) for driving an impeller (22) and a heating means (16) for heating the air. The housing (11, 12) also has a handle (23) which can be moved from an operative position in which it projects at an angle to the housing, into a rest position in which it extends parallel to the housing. The handle (23) is connected by way of a separate disc-like rotary connection (53) to an extension (45) on the rear housing (12) of the hand hair dryer. The rotary connection (53) is connected by means of a fixing screw (52) to a hollow trunnion portion (51) in the extension (45). <IMAGE>
