A digital communication system using multiple parallel encoders and a method thereof are provided to reduce the decoding delay at a receiver as decoders does not need to communicate data with each other while performing a decoding operation. Reed-Solomon encoders(310,330) encode a video data stream, and parsers(314,334) parses the streams of the RS encoded data into sub-video data streams. Plural convolution encoders(316,318,320,322,336,338,340,342) encode the plural sub-video data streams in parallel to generate plural encoded data streams. Multiplexers(324,344) inputs the streams of the plural encoded data, and outputs multiplexed data streams.
