The appts. includes a fuel injection valve (10), a throttle valve (8) positioned in an inlet passage (6) and a bypass (12) communicating with the inlet passage downstream of the throttle valve. An arrangement admits ambient air into the bypass passage, with circuitry (32) calculating a normally desired amount of fuel to be injected into the inlet passage by the valve based on the output of an air pressure sensor (20) in the bypass and possibly engine speed sensed (26). In order to compensate for differences between the respective air pressure in the bypass and the downstream part of the inlet passage circuitry calculates an adjusted amount of fuel to be injected which is different from the normally desired amount of fuel. The adjustment is dependent on sensed engine temperature sensed.
