A rowing device comprises a frame (1), a seat (2), a pulley (7), a flexible pull member (5) fastened at its one end to the pulley (7), a transmission wheel (9) having a diameter smaller than that of the pulley (7), (10) arranged within the pulley concentrically, flexible transmission means (10) fastened to the transmission wheel (9) and arranged to be engaged with a movable part (11a) in a resistance element (11). The flexible transmission means (10) is arranged to be wound around the transmission wheel (9) when the rower pulls at the flexible pull member (5) and to simultaneously draw the movable part (11a) of the resistance element (11) outward relative to another part (11b) fastened to the frame (1) so as to resist the pulling movement (A) of the flexible pull member (5). <IMAGE>
