PURPOSE:To improve both the responsiveness and the efficiency for a thin film magnetic head, by increasing the length of the magnetic pole face of a magnetic matter which forms a recording and reproducing gap as it goes further away from said gap. CONSTITUTION:A recording and reproducing gap 12 is provided between thin film magnetic poles 10 and 11, and a signal is converted between the recording tracks of a magnetic recording medium. A magnetic thin film 13 extending in a prescribed length along the recording track of the poles 10 and 11 is provided. For the film 13, the magnetic pole faces 16 and 16 are provided within the same plane as the faces 14 and 15 of the poles 10 and 11. Such magnetic head is used to reproduce the signal on the magnetic recording surface. In this case, the secondary response emerges at a position which is sufficiently distant from the main response, and at the same time the amplitude has a minute change. Therefore the effect of the main response is very small to improve the reliability in the reproduction mode. At the same time, the conversion efficiency is also improved for the magnetic head. |
