In an internal combustion engine with impulse charging by means of an exhaust turbocharger, the turbine casing of which has an exhaust inlet duct 6 from which there leads off a bypass duct 13 controlled by a blow-off valve 11, 12, the exhaust lines 2, 3, 4, 5 of the cylinders of the internal combustion engine are taken individually as far as the turbine inlet duct 6. This has a wall portion 9 lying obliquely to the direction of flow of the exhaust gases and having a blow-off opening 10 to which the bypass duct 13 is connected. The valve 11 of the blow-off valve interacts with this opening and is substantially flush with the wall portion 9 when the blow-off valve is closed.
