The present invention relates to a method and to a device for automatically mounting a window channel or seal on the uprights of a door of a vehicle. This method consists in preshaping and orienting each seal individually, preferably from a storage loader, for installing it on a gripper secured to a robot; in shaping the seal thus prepared on the gripper with the aid of a shaper which corresponds in terms of geometry and in terms of dimensions to the window of the vehicle; in fitting the held window channel or seal thus shaped onto a rebate extending laterally to the uprights in a direction substantially parallel to a direction of engagement formed by the rebate; then in removing the shaper from the seal by sliding the shaper in the guide groove of the seal towards the body of the door. This method and this device apply to mounting a window channel or seal, preferably a rigid one, on one of the doors, right or left, front or rear, of a motor vehicle of any type whatsoever.
