The invention concerns a potato-picking machine which consists of a cylinder 1 and of a conveyor screw 4 which is centred in the cylinder and is mounted in the end plates 2, 3 provided with openings 11. The cylinder 1 associated with the jacket surface is provided with at least one opening 6 located on the ascending side of the cylinder 1 in relation to the direction of rotation 7 of the conveyor screw 4 and covered with a lattice 5 for removing soil material, roots, stones or the like from the cylinder 1 by centrifugal force. The lower edge 6a of the opening or openings 6 extends about 0 to 15 degree under the horizontal plane in the longitudinal centre axis of the cylinder 1, and the upper edge 6b of the opening or openings 6 correspondingly about 30 to 45 degree above the said horizontal plane. The cylinder 1 is intended to penetrate with its front part into the earth for digging up potatoes. <IMAGE>
