The headlamp unit is secured to the vehicle body via a bracket (192) which can be secured to the headlamp housing in several alterante positions, in dependence on the type of vehicle. The headlamp housing is formed in two parts (78,80), together enclosing a light source (84), a rear reflector (110) and a front lens (112). Onee part (78) of the housing pref. has projecting ribs around its full periphery, for cooperating with locating slots (198) in the bracket (192), to allow the latter to be attached at any required position.
