A fitted element for a mass transfer and/or heat exchange column is described, which consists of layers arranged in a plurality of parallel planes. The layers are formed of sheet-like material folded in a zigzag manner. They have strips (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) made of rectangular guide surfaces (6) which run parallel next to one another and perpendicular to the folds. The guide surfaces (6) are arranged at an angle to the plane of the layer and are joined together by roof faces (7) which are aligned essentially parallel to the plane of the layer. Roof faces (7) of adjacent strips (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) are joined to one another, via junctions (9).
