Pyrolysis heater for the pyrolysis of hydrocarbons comprises radiant heating chamber with tubular processing coils having first and second-half for processing fluid in heating chamber, plus radiant burners for heating the tubular processing coils, tubular processing coils within at least portion of the first half only, and extended heating surface for increasig the adsorption of radiant heat. The heating surface comprises heating surface attached to and extending outwardly from external surface of tubular processing coil.
