PURPOSE: To provide a method for preventing a sticky material from depositing on paper machine felts and other device parts by applying a cationic polymer- containing water solution and specific water solution thereon. CONSTITUTION: This method is carried out by applying a water solution containing at least about 2 ppm of a cationic polymer and a water solution containing a nonionic or cationic surface-active agent onto press felts 12, 14, 16 and 18 in any place of respective returning steps by using e.g. showering devices 50, 51, 52 and 53. The surface-active agent is used in an amount effective to inhibit build-up of deposits derived from the cationic polymer.
