PURPOSE:To obtain a battery having high capacity and high performance by using an insoluble, infusible substance having a polyacene skeletal structure in a positive electrode and a negative electrode and by covering the inner surface of a base metal with an inert metal. CONSTITUTION:Electrodes 3, 5 are made of a material obtained by heat-treating a condensation product of an aromatic hydrocarbon and an aldehyde. This material contains an insoluble, infusible substance having a polyacene skeletal structure whose atomic ratio of hydrogen atom to carbon atom is 0.5-0.05 and having a BET specific surface area of 600m<2>/g or more. The inner surface of a base metal on the positive electrode 5 side is covered with an inert metal such as stainless steel and iron. Metal cases 1, 2 are made of a composite metal obtained by covering the inside of the base metal with the inert metal. A battery having high capacity and high performance can be obtained. |
