Process and apparatus for the production of a spun web

The invention relates to a process for the production of a spun web consisting of a multiplicity of plastic monofilaments, the thermoplasticised plastic emerging from a multiplicity of nozzle orifices of the cross-sectional surface in a nozzle plate and forming underneath the nozzle plate a multiple veil of the monofilaments lying next to one another and one behind the other, cooling air being blown transversely onto the multiple veil. Furthermore, the sufficiently cooled and, if appropriate, drafted monofilaments are deposited on a transport base to form a spun web. The thermoplasticised plastic is pressed out of nozzle orifices having an elongate cross-sectional surface, in which the major axis is larger than the minor axis by approximately a factor of 1.5 to 2.5, preferably by approximately 2. All the major axes run parallel. The cooling air is blown into the multiple veil in the direction of the major axes. An apparatus for carrying out the process is also specified. <IMAGE>
