In an apparatus for producing liquid streams in sedimentation tanks, having a rotary-driven circulation unit immersed in the liquid, the circulation unit is constructed as a paddle wheel having paddles projecting essentially radially from a shaft and extending over the length of the shaft. The paddle wheel is completely immersed in the liquid and is arranged with its shaft horizontal and running along a side wall of the sedimentation tank. Baffles are assigned to the paddle wheel which form a flat flow channel, possibly together with a side wall of the sedimentation tank, and ensure a horizontally and vertically directed flow, leaving this flow channel, in the sedimentation basin.
