The apparatus, which is intended for separating noble metals from mercury starting with an amalgam, comprises, on the one hand, a cast iron distillation container 1 intended to receive a quantity of amalgam and to be subjected to the effect of means of heating 11 and, on the other hand, a distillation column 3 made of steel which has a vertical part capable of being connected in a leakproof manner to the said distillation container 1, and a bent part whose free end is capable of being connected, in a leakproof manner, to a mercury receiver 6, the said means of heating 11 being capable of raising the amalgam to a temperature capable of reaching 1000 DEG C. <IMAGE>
