PURPOSE:To prevent a device from being produced larger in size and higher in cost even with the increase of the number of recording heads by providing a second engaging means which engages in conjunction with the relative travel of a capping means and in this engaged state inhibits the carriage from traveling in a direction that it may be moved by a recording head support means. CONSTITUTION:Because a carriage 2 and a discharge recovery device 15 are engaged with each other by a projected part 2-A and a hole part 15-A, a pressing force is held by this engaged part to prevent the shift of the carriage 2. Therefore, only by ensuring the sufficient holding rigidity of the carriage 2 and recording heads 1-1-1-4, the sufficient rigidity of the projected part 2-A and the hole part 15-A, and the positional accuracy of the fitted part, a recovery operation by a secured sealing can be performed without the need for improving the rigidity and accuracy of the other parts. Particularly, since only a rotating moment acts around a carriage shaft 3, the need for improving the rigidity of the shaft is eliminated. Furthermore, because the carriage is guided by a slider so as to correspond to a paper thickness, the number of shafts can be reduced to one. |
