Process for isolating elemental sulphur from material containing elemental sulphur

The material containing elemental sulphur is charged, in a particle size of up to 3 mm, into the fluidised-bed reactor of a circulating fluidised bed into which a hot carrier gas is passed. The gaseous sulphur present in the gas leaving the reactor is, after dust removal, condensed. A part of the carrier gas freed of sulphur is heated in a vortex cooler by indirect heat exchange with the hot solid discharged from the circulating fluidised bed and after possible further indirect heating is recirculated to the fluidised-bed reactor as primary gas. The temperature of the carrier gas is set so that the mean temperature in the fluidised-bed reactor is at least 50@C above the dew point of the carrier gas loaded with sulphur.
