PURPOSE:To easily manufacture an Fe-base shape memory alloy showing desired shape memory effects by successively subjecting an Fe-base alloy containing specific percentages of Mn and Si to rapid cooling and to heating treatment under respectively specified conditions and controlling the ratio of equilibrium phase to nonequilibrium phase. CONSTITUTION:A molten metal having a composition consisting of, by weight, 10-30% Mn, <=8% Si, and the balance essentially Fe is cooled rapidly at >=10<5>k/s cooling rate, by which an alloy stock composed of nonequilibrium phase is prepared. Subsequently, the above alloy stock is heat-treated at various temps. of >=400 deg.C, by which transition from nonequilibrium phase to equilibrium phase is carried out and simultaneously the ratio of the equilibrium phase to the nonequilibrium phase is controlled. By this method, the Fe-base shape memory alloy capable of freely designing the rate of shape recovery merely by changing heat treat-treating temp. can be obtained, and also its use can be extended. |
