PURPOSE:To considerably increase the adhesive strength of a sprayed layer of a metal, an alloy, ceramics or the like formed on the surface of an alloy steel substrate by heating the substrate having the sprayed layer in a vacuum under specified conditions. CONSTITUTION:A sprayed layer is formed on the surface of an alloy steel substrate using a metal, an alloy, ceramics or cermet as a spraying material. The alloy steel of the substrate is selected from various kinds of alloy steels used as machine structural materials, and according to the purpose and use, the spraying material is selected from metals such as Cr, Ni and Mo, various kinds of stainless steels and alloy steels such as Cr-Mo steel and Ni-Cr steel, ceramics such as oxides, carbides, nitrides and borides of various kinds of metals, and cermet consisting of ceramics and Ni, Co or the like. After forming the sprayed layer by a conventional method, the substrate is heated to >=1,000 deg.C in a gaseous hydrogen atmosphere at <=10<-1>mm.Hg vacuum degree to remarkably activate the surfaces of the sprayed layer and the substrate thereby considerably increasing the adhesive strength. |
