The invention relates to a torch head for a torch for TIG remelt hardening, comprising an electrode attached to a current source, a nozzle enclosing the electrode via an annular gap, and a torch cap enclosing the nozzle via a further annular gap, inert gas being directed via the annular gaps. To improve the remelt quality and to reduce the gas consumption, the outflow cross-section between nozzle and torch cap at a gas pressure of about 10 bar is dimensioned in such a way that a total of about 2-6 litres/min. of gas, in particular about 3-5 litres/min. of gas, flows through.
