The invention relates to a control device for the current flow through the heating filament of a tubular heater in which a temperature sensor is arranged, having a switch which is series-connected with the heating filament and whose switching position is controlled by the temperature sensor. To provide a tubular heater with a control device which signals abnormal operating situations it is provided that the control device has a first comparator to which are connected the temperature sensor and a reference signal transmitter whose reference signal corresponds to the desired value for example of the temperature of a water bath, and whose output signal is supplied to a control circuit for the switch.
