This invention provides a method for the detection and/or quantification of hyaluronan (also known as hyaluronic acid or HA). The method is an inhibition method using a hyaluronan binding protein and hyaluronan bound to a solid support which has been prior coated with a polycationic coating material. The invention also provides a diagnostic kit for use in the method of the invention.
