The ball mill comprises a container (5) for receiving a material to be pulverised and pulverising balls. An agitator includes arms (Ba) rotatable on a vertical axis (8) and carrying elongate agitating tubes (8b) extending along and revolvable about the vertical axis (P) . All the arms are disposed in a position above the material and the balls in the container (5). A gas feed supplies a gas into the container during a pulverising operation. The feed has a gas inlet (20) in the bottom of the container.
