PURPOSE: To improve color display by forming a light emitting layer made of a mixture of specified red, green and blue phosphors. CONSTITUTION: A red phosphor made of (YδGd1-δ)2 O3 :Eu<3+> (δis 1 or <1) and emitting light in the spectral range of 610-620mm is mixed with a green phosphor selected from among CeMgAl11 O19 :Tb, Y2 SiO5 :Ce, Tb, LaPO4 :Ce, Tb and LaMgB5 O10 :Ce, Te and emitting light mainly in the spectral range of 540-545nm and a blue phosphor selected from among BaMgAl10 O17 :Eu<2+> , BaMg1.7 Al20 O32.7 : Eu<2+> , BaMg2 AL24 O39 :Eu<2+> and M10 Cl2 (PO4 )6 :Eu<2+> (M is Sr, Ca or Ba) and having 430-480nm peak wavelength of emitted light and <=30nm half-width in such a mixing ratio that a deviation exceeding 10 standard deviation from points x=0.300 and y=0.232 is not shown in any direction in the chromaticity coordinates of the CIE color system, and a light emitting layer is formed using the resultant mixture.
