Running thread cutting system - has clamping and cutting plate accelerated towards thread and abutment for the cutting action

A running thread is cut by passing it through a casing with a tiltable clamping and cutting plate which is kept clear of the thread and of an abutment by a power cylinder. This plate carries a weight and if the power cylinder rod is retracted, the clamping/cutting plate is accelerated by the weight and its cutting edge squeezes the thread on the abutment to cut it. The thread (4) descends through the casing (5) in which a clamping/cutting plate (6) is kept clear by a power cylinder (13). When the thread is to be cut, the power cylinder rod (10) is retracted and the weight (7) accelerates the plate against the abutment (14). The cutting edge (8) is urged by friction to cut the thread. ADVANTAGE - A reliable cut is obtd. independent of machining accuracy and of wear.
