PURPOSE:To prevent imprudent defective-printing operation by fitting a contact detecting means such as a microswitch and validating the output of a relative positional signal from a rotary encoder only on a contact with an object to be printed. CONSTITUTION:When a box body 5 is held by a hand and moved on an object to be printed, a rotary encoder 11 is turned by the revolution of a wheel 9, and a printing data is transmitted over a printing head 8 in response to a relative positional signal from the rotary encoder to heat-generate the printing head. A printing ribbon 12 is wound on a winding shaft 16 by the revolution of a wheel 13 at the same time, and printing is conducted. When a small-sized manual printer is held by a hand for the operation of printing at that time, defective printing-operation is started when the head is in contact with the wheel 9 carelessly and the rotary encoder 11 is rotated, thus detecting a noncontact with the object to be printed by a microswitch 18, then inhibiting the output of the relative positional signal to an interface circuit 19 from the rotary encoder 11. |
