Magnetic head (I) has a metallic ferromagnetic material (II) at a portion of (I) which defines a transducing gap, and has track width narrowing grooves filled with a firt glass over (II). An oxide-, or carbide-film is provided on (II); a nonmagnetic metal film is on the oxide or carbide film; and the first glass is packed on the nonmagnetic metal film. Pref. a glass film made of a second glass is further provided between the nonmagnetic metal film and the first glass.
