<p>A machine for wrapping articles in flexible film is described, as in EP-A-0174161. A method for wrapping an article (M) in a film (F) comprises extending the film which is fed by a film feed mechanism (2), at a predetermined part of a wrapping machine, the article being lifted into engaging contact with the film from below and folding at least one edge portion of the film underneath the article by a folding mechanism constituted by at least left, right and front folding plates (21,22,23), adjusting the tension of the fim by use of left, right and central clamping mechanisms (41.....) for clamping at least a front edge portion of the film laterally thereof at left, right and central portions and folding the lower edge portion of the film under the article; and prior to the wrapping of articles the operation timing of the machine is adjusted so as to set (a) a time difference between a time at which the left and right folding plates (21,22) start operating and a time at which the left (41,65,41 min ,65 min ) and right (41,67,41 min , 67 min ) clamping mechanisms release the film (F), the adjustment being made on the basis of the width of the article to be wrapped (M) or of the length to which the film is cut, and (b) based on the length of the article, a time difference is adjusted between the time at which the front folding plate (23) starts operating and a time at which the central clamping mechanism (41,66,41 min ,66 min ) releases the film. Further film folding steps are described. Control apparatus for the wrapping machine includes means for control the operating time of the machine elements and for operatively actuating the elements in a predetermined relationship.</p> |
