There is disclosed a process for treating lignocellulosic material with a volatile or unstable ammonium salt, in order to raise the nitrogen content of the crop or modify and restrict microbial activity on the crop and, for mature materials containing 60 % dry matter or more, to improve the digestibility of plant cell wall material. |
