PURPOSE: To convert a measured voltage value into the dimension of thickness by providing a capacity detection means for providing an output symbol for indicating a detected capacitance, a means for displaying one portion of a glass container wall at a capacitance detection means, and a means for converting the capacitance detected by a specific equation to data that indicate thickness. CONSTITUTION: A carrier 14 presses a bottle 10 against a plurality of capacitance detection line pieces 16 while it is displaced through a test site. A bracket 20 is connected to a corresponding housing 24 of an oscillator assembly by a pole 22. The oscillator assembly receives a capacitance signal through a calibrated cable 26 and generates a voltage signal that is supplied to a computer 30. Then, detected capacitance is experientially converted into data that indicates a capacitance by using an equation C (T)=A×T/(1+B×T), (where C is a measurement value of capacitance, T is a wall thickness, A is a coefficient for indicating a linear relationship in the case of a thin thickness, and B is a coefficient for indicating a nonlinear relationship in the case of a thick thickness).
