PURPOSE:To eliminate difficulty in handling due to the stickiness of an adhesive and to unnecessitate many metal mold for molding by injecting a resin soln. into a bag packed with an amorphous aggregate of carbon fibers in vacuum and by treating the packed aggregate. CONSTITUTION:An amorphous aggregate of carbon fibers is prepd. in the form of chips, cotton, nonwoven fabric, etc., and packed into a bag made of resin which is carbonized by heating. This bag is set under reduced pressure and a resin soln. as an adhesive is injected into the bag to form a compressed inter mediate. This intermediate is put in a jig, the dimensions are regulated and the reduced pressure is returned to atmospheric pressure to obtain a prescribed density. The intermediate is then made infusible and carbonized or graphitized by heating. |
