PURPOSE:To increase discharge performance and to decrease cost by using carbon black having high graphitization degree and high conductivity as a conductive material of a positive mix. CONSTITUTION:In a lithium-manganese dioxide primary battery having a positive mix comprising manganese dioxide and a conductive material, liquid hydrocarbon is partially oxidized with molecular oxygen under the existence of water vapor to form synthetic gas, and simultaneously obtained by-product carbon is dried and heated at 1800 deg.C or higher to manufacture carbon black which is highly graphitized, then this carbon black is used as the conductive material. The by-product carbon is dried in the non-oxidizing condition at 100-900 deg.C, preferably in a nitrogen atmosphere at 300-900 deg.C. By this drying process, moisture content of the by-product carbon is reduced to 1wt.% or less, preferably to 0.5wt.% or less. The battery having low cost and high discharge performance can be obtained. |
