PURPOSE:To manufacture the title magnetic alloy useful for a magnetic recording/reproducing head or the like by subjecting an alloy essentially consisting of specific ratios of Ni, Zn, Cd and iron and consisting of specific amounts of copper, W, etc., as auxiliary components to heating and cooling under specific conditions. CONSTITUTION:An alloy consisting essentially of an alloy constituted of, by weight, 30 to 90% Ni, total 0.001 to 5% of one or both of Zn and Cd and the balance iron with small amounts of impurities and contg., as auxiliary components, total 0.01 to 30% of one or more kinds among <=30% copper, each <=20% of W and Ta, each <=15% Nb, Mn and Cr, each <=10% of Mo, V, gold and Co, each <=5% of Ti, Si, Ge, Ga, In, Tl, Sr, Ba and platinum group elements, each <=3% of Al, Zr, Hf, silver, rare earth elements, Be, tin and Sb and each <=2% of B and P is suitably heated at a temp. of >=600 deg.C and below the m.p. for 1min to 100hr in a non-oxidizing atmosphere or in vacuum and is thereafter cooled to a normal temp. from >=600 deg.C at a suitable cooling speed of 100 deg.C/sec to 1 deg.C/hr. |
