The invention relates to a device for reducing the action of wind on a stay (cable), in particular for a cable-stayed bridge of long span. A sleeve formed by two profiled shells 4, 5 assembled by adhesive bonding is designed for pivoting, under the effect of the wind, around the stay (cable) in order to present least resistance. Preferably, the shells are formed of a rigid plastic foam 6, surrounded by a coating 7 of reinforced resin covered with a smooth and leaktight material of the "Gelcoat" type 7. The device advantageously comprises independent successive sleeves, held by retention rings. <IMAGE>
