PURPOSE:To obtain thick foam moldings wherein foam particles have little gap therebetween and are well fused with each other by a method comprising steps of reducing the pressure within a cavity, removing the air, heating foam particles by a heating steam led into the cavity thereby to expand and melt the foam particles with each other to form a die foam, and cooling the die form. CONSTITUTION:Pre-expansion particles are thermally formed with pressure and filled into a die provided with a cavity 4 by a filling gun 9. Air removing pipes 11, 11', 11'' are opened to reduce the pressure in the cavity 4 and chambers 8, 8', 8'' with the pressure of -650mmHg and, then the air is removed. The pipe 11'' is closed and a steam pipe 10'' is opened to introduce steam. When the pressure in the cavity 4 becomes 0mmHg, steam pipes 10 and 10' are opened, and steam of 0.7kg/cm<2> is guided into the chambers 8, 8', so that the pre-expansion particles are heated and expanded fused with each other. Subsequently, the steam pipes 10, 10', 10'' are closed, and cooling water is supplied into the chambers. The die is accordingly cooled. The cooling water is then discharged through a drain pipe to the outside of the die. Drain pipes 12, 12', 12'' and steam pipes 10, 10', 10'' are closed, and the air pipes 11, 11', 11'' are opened for cooling. |
