PURPOSE:To make whether or not file transfer can be executed recognizable by users so as to prevent a futile file transferring request by periodically checking the state of an opposite-side host computer and storing the information in a table. CONSTITUTION:An opposite-side host managing means 3 on a host computer (HC) 1 periodically receives control signals against opposite-side HCs (2-1)...(2-n) and discriminates whether or not file transfer programs on the HCs normal operate and whether or not communication lines are normal. After discrimination, the means 3 stores the information in an opposite-side host management table 4 at every opposite-side HC. When a user makes a file transfer request to the HC 1 or a request for displaying the status of one opposite-side HC, an opposite-side host information communicating means 5 displays a message indicating that whether or not a file transferring program is operated or whether or not the communication line is normal by referring to the table 4. Therefore, a futile file transferring request is prevented.
