PURPOSE:To extend the life of a battery by repeating charge and discharge of constant- current and constant-voltage at the peak current not more than a predetermined value, several times, and then, by repeating charge and discharge of constant-current and constant-voltage at the peak current not less than a predetermined value. CONSTITUTION:A battery of 12V, 36Ah of 20 hours rate capacity is used. Under the condition A where charge is insufficient, constant-current and constant-voltage charge is executed with 6A of peak current and 14.4V of limiting voltage, while, under the condition B where charge is excessive, constant-current and constant-voltage charge is executed with peak current of 14A and limiting voltage of 15.0V. The process in which the condition A for charge is repeated 100 times, and then the condition B for charge is repeated 10 times, is repeated. Charging time is defined as 8 minutes while a condition for discharge is defined as 4 minutes at 11A. As a result of charge and discharge repeated 30000 times, initial voltage of 12.3V becomes final discharge voltage of 11.9V, which is reduced gradually, however, at a very low rate. Increase in exothermic temperature can be suppressed by the combination of the use under the condition of insufficient charge and the use under the condition of excessive charge, and the life of a battery can thus be extended. |
