PURPOSE:To print single ink or a plurality of inks on a recording sheet without replacing an ink carrier by allowing retraction holes of one of the first and second carriers to coincide with the press region of a recording head. CONSTITUTION:A plurality of retraction holes 11, 12 are respectively bored in the first and second ink carriers 1, 2 at an equal intervals (l) and the retraction holes 11, 12 hold either one of or both of the first and second ink carriers 1, 2 to a stationary state even when a recording head 5 presses a platen roller 9. Inks 13Y, 13M, 13C of yellow, magenta and cyan colors are repeatedly applied to the first ink carrier 1 at the part corresponding to the interval (l) and black ink 14 is applied to the second ink carrier 2. In the first ink carrier 1, bar codes 15Y, 15M, 15C using black ink are printed on lines 24, 25 in order to detect the colors of the inks continuing after each retraction hole 11 and, in the second ink carrier 2, a bar code 16 is printed on a line 26. The retraction holes of one of the first and second ink carriers 1, 2 are allowed to coincide with the press region of a recording head 5 and the ink carriers 1, 2 are selected and single ink or a plurality of inks can be printed on a recording sheet 10. |
