PURPOSE:The clad tube holder with a specific shape and the parent material holder are used in such combination as they are slidable with each other to form optical fibers having a desired ratio of the core diameter to the clad outer diameter and small eccentricity. CONSTITUTION:Clad tube holder 13 with the top surface of concaved hemisphere 17 is held through arm 12 by screw rod 9, while the parent material holder 18 with the bottom surface of convexed hemisphere 21 is slidably placed on the concaved surface 17. Clad tube 2 is set in the hole on the axis 14 of the holder 13 (15 means adjusting screw), thus the clad tube 2 and the parent material 1 are allowed to go down almost concentrically. Then, the screw rod 9 is allowed to rotate to allow both the clad tube 12 and the parent material 1 to go down along with both holders 13, 18 and they are melted in the furnace 3 and drawn in the arrow direction to form the objective optical fiber. |
