PURPOSE:To heighten reliability at the time of breakdown in a device, wherein a plunger is reciprocated by the switching of a solenoid valve so as to forcibly feed fuel with the fixed pressure to a common rail for a diesel engine by constructing the device in such a way as to make the low pressure passage of the solenoid valve serve for a fuel feed passage. CONSTITUTION:A high pressure pump 10 in the title is provided with a cylinder 13 fitted with a plunger 18 performing reciprocating motion coupled with the rotation of a cam shaft 16 in a cam chamber 12. A solenoid valve 15 screwed into the cylinder 13 seats a valve body 38 at a seat part 37 and sets the pressure application starting time of the plunger 18 when a current is applied to the plunger 18 for a fixed time after closing a feed hole 20. In this case, a low pressure passage 31 provided at the solenoid valve 15 in order to connect a plunger chamber 19 with a fuel sump 22 is used also as a fuel feed passage. When the solenoid valve 15 is unenergized at the descending time of the plunger 18, the low pressure fuel from a feed pump 3 is led into the plunger chamber 19 through a lead-in pipe 14, the fuel sump 22, the passage 31 and the valve body 38. |
