PURPOSE:To improve the accuracy of recognition by recognizing a traveling environment indicating whether congestion exists or not in a bent ascending slope based upon a correlation factor calculated from a detected accelerator operation speed and a steering speed. CONSTITUTION:During the traveling of a vehicle, an accelerator operation speed detecting means detects an accelerator operation speed and a steering speed detecting means detects the steering speed of a steering. A correlation factor computing means calculates the correlation factor between both the speeds to check whether correlation factor exists or not between both speeds and a correlation factor deciding means decides whether the obtained correlation factor is more than a prescribed value or not. When the obtained correlation factor is more than the prescribed value, a congestion recognizing means recognizes the traveling environment as congestion is a bent ascending slope. Since plural signals of the accelerator operation speed and the steering speed are used for the recognition of the traveling environment, the recognition accuracy of traveling environment recognition deciding whether congestion exists on the bent ascending slope or not can be improved. |
