An impact-resistant polystyrene resin is prepd. by two-step bulk- suspension polymn. comprising the steps of; (A) admixing tert. dodecyl mercapthane and silicone oil with synthetic rubber soln. insolved in styrene monomer, and preparing a prepolymer by the bulk- polymn. with stirring and heating when phase conversion terminated; (B) suspension polymerising by adding a suspension soln. and a little of mineral oil with the obtd. prepolymer, suspending and then adding a polymn. initiator and heating. The suspension soln. is made by dispersing tricalcium posphate in diionized water. Pref. the rubber is dissolved in amt. of 3-15% w.r.t. styrene monomer.
