The truck exhibits the overall shape of a straddling gantry consisting of an upper box structure 1 mounted on four legs 2 resting on wheels 3, 4, an internal volume thus being formed between the legs to receive a spool 5 which is supported on each side of the truck by a lifting wedge 6 the tip 7 of which points towards the longitudinal central axis of the truck, each lifting wedge being raisable along the legs by virtue of chains 9, 14 driven by a motor 12.
