The machine is based on the use of four suitably twisted cords 15 which it initially keeps separate with the aid of an operational core 13 provided with separator partitions 14, this core 13 being mounted on a carriage 1 which can be displaced on guides 2 of a length which corresponds to that of the ropes or supports to be obtained, in such a manner that the cords 15, which are fixed beyond the core 13, are braided together as the carriage 1 is displaced. In parallel, a device 17 for supplying sticks, with the aid of a positioning cylinder 18, an extractor cylinder 19 and a cylinder 20 for pressing the sticks onto the rope, individually places said sticks in the braiding zone, said sticks being fixed to the rope at regular intervals. <IMAGE>
