The field of the invention is that of the visual display of signals which are modulated as a function of time, on a video monitor such as those of the line-by-line image scanning type. The objective is to supply a method and a device allowing direct display of this signal on the video monitor, without using a conventional screen memory. The device according to the invention includes means 14 for ordered storage of the sequence of sampled points which are representative of the said signal, each of the said points being defined on the abscissa by its rank in the memory-stored sequence and on the ordinate by the number of the display line of the said point on the video monitor, and means for real-time generation of control signals for the display of the said stored sequence on the monitor, which consist of means 16 for determining the state of each pixel of the line from the contents of the said read sequence. <IMAGE>
