THIXOTROPIC GEL AND ITS USE AS A FILLING COMPOUND FOR FIBRE-OPTIC CABLES

A thixotropic gel based on a synthetic hydrocarbon oil and a hydrophobic thixotropic agent is described. The synthetic hydrocarbon oil consists of a hydrated polyalkylene, which is a polymer of 1-octen, l-nonen, l-decen, l-undecen and/or l-dodecen or a mixture of these polymers. The gel is particularly well-suited for use as a filling compound in the manufacture of fibre-optic cables.
