PURPOSE:To eliminate the need to provide dye or pigment transfer media for each color by producing a thermal transfer recording medium by providing on a support an ink layer comprising a heat-fusible substance and a high molecular weight cholesteric liquid crystal substance. CONSTITUTION:A heat-fusible substance and a high molecular weight cholesteric liquid crystal substance are dissolved in an organic solvent such as benzene to prepare a coating liquid. The coating liquid is applied to a support, such as a paper and a plastic film, followed by drying to provide an ink layer, thereby producing a thermal transfer recording medium. The heat-fusible substance to be used may be, for example, a wax, a higher fatty acid or metallic salt thereof, or a homopolymer or copolymer of an olefin. As the high molecular weight liquid crystal substance, a thermotropic high molecular weight cholesteric liquid crystal derivative is preferable. The thermal transfer medium thus obtained enables the formation of a color image without providing dye or pigment transfer media for each color. |
