Automobile fuel level measuring system

The fuel level detector (1) has a float (5) mounted so as to move over a fixed guiding element (3) by a joint (7) on a strap (2) fixed to the wall of the fuel reservoir. The guide element (3) carries a resistance (4) on which an electrical contact carried by the float (5) rubs. The joint (7) consists of two parts (23,24), one of which is fixed to the strap (2) and the other to the guide element (3). Between the two coaxial parts (23,24), the joint has at least one connector which develops a bias with respect to the longitudinal axis of the part (23,24). This connector has a thickness such that it will break when submitted to transversal as well as longitudinal movement so as to avoid damage to the strap (2) and preventing fuel escape from the reservoir.
